During my term as president of the Risk and Insurance Management Society (Rims), I am going to focus on enterprise risk management, strategic management, legislative initiatives and Rims’s international strategy.
We are focusing on enterprise risk management, as the risk management profession continues to morph into a higher-level and higher-visibility job with what happened in the economy and some of the federal legislation that is coming.
We want to educate our members and focus on the legislation on the agenda in Washington, such as the optional federal charter and surplus line bills.
Senator Charles Schumer has introduced some legislation in Washington saying that all public companies must have a risk management committee. We are working with his office and trying to determine what that actually means and how our members can play a role in that.
