Following record snowfalls in the Northeastern and mid-Atlantics states in the U.S . during early February, 2010, the southern states have also been subject to a powerful (though unrelated) winter storm over the weekend of 13 and 14 February. Uncharacteristically for this region a winter storm crossed southern U.S . on Friday, 12 February through to Sunday, 14 February bringing rain, ice and snow over large sections of Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia as the storm moved eastwards towards the Atlantic Coast.
