The UK government has upheld a 2007 ruling in the House of Lords that pleural plaques does not constitute actionable or compensatable damage.
As part of a package of measures for people with asbestos-related illnesses unveiled by Justice Secretary Jack Straw, the government will compensate individuals who had already begun legal claims for compensation for pleural plaques at the time of the Law Lords’ ruling in October 2007.
