Ironshore has bulked up since Kevin Kelley joined from AIG to lead the firm. But the firm is facing accusations of undercutting to build market share.

Bermudian insurer Ironshore has grown fast since Kevin Kelley took over as chief executive officer at the end of 2008. The firm grew 100% last year and in the first quarter of this year grew a further 60%.
Ironshore has been a big beneficiary of American International Group (AIG)’s troubles. The firm pulled off a big coup when it announced Kelley as CEO in December 2008, replacing founding
CEO Bob Deutsch.
It is doubtful the firm would have lured such an experienced AIG man otherwise. Kelley was very much one of former CEO Hank Greenberg’s top men. He had been running Lexington, AIG’s surplus lines unit, since 1987, and had been with the firm since 1975.
Reactions caught up with Kelley in Boston at the Risk and Insurance Management Society’s annual meeting in April. This was home turf for Kelley, who is a lifelong New England resident. In...
